Forza Test Three: Dodging that Shelby (The Dodge Shelby Omni GLHS test)

At NV tuning, we supply the very unusual and enjoyable cars for folks. And it's time for our latest creation, The Dodge Shelby Omni 399, to take its turn for the NV Tuning Blog's test. The Omni 399 is named after it's horsepower output. But the stock car comes standard with 175 hp and 175 ft-lbs of torque. Weighing in at 2,540 lbs, the FF Dodge Shelby Omni GLHS is rated as a D309. I took the stock car out for a tour on Sedona's club circuit. As I go on my lap, I put on Somebody I Used to Know and I guess that's a good thing. It definitely fits the car's attitude. That car seems like a lost gem from a time where the big cars were the Camaro and Mustang and all those muscle cars.
Time- 1:50.806
Overall-
Performance- 6/10- I can say that I felt a little bit more comfortable in this car than the Escort RS Cosworth or the Peugoet 206 RC, partially because, unlike the Escort, I didn't feel a lack of stability and partially because, unlike the 206, it wasn't hurt by the front engine, front wheel drive setup.
Style- 6.5/10- I can't say I'm particularly pleased with the style of this 80s lost gem, although the little hood vent does give it a little bit of flair.
Total- 12.5/20 (D)- I'm not too disappointed in the car, the performance was better than what I expected for an 80's pocket rocket. Even though I gave it a D, I feel as though it doesn't need as much as the other cars did to be a A or B.

The Omni 399 is an A-Class AWD car, rated as an A600. The car weighs 262 lbs more than stock, at 2,802 lbs, but comes standard with 399hp and 349 ft-lbs of torque. Putting on Something Good Can Work, I took it on Sedona's club circut. With the change to AWD and the increase of 224 hp, it feels a little more at ease and I think I'm going to keep it for a while.
Time- 1:35.513
Overall-
Performance- 8.5/10- Actually I would not be surprised if the car could hold its own against the other A-Class cars that I own/plan on owning, and for a car that seems to be a lost gem from the 80's, making it feel like a modern sports car was something that it seemed right at home for. Overall, it's a decent starter car and starter tune for an Omni.
Style- 6.5/10- I'm still not about the style of the Omni, other than the hood vent. It's a little too much like a 1.5 ton brick in my eyes.
Total- 15/20 (C)- The reason for it not to be higher is the stylistic blahs of the 80s, and all in all it is for all intensive purposes, one of my favorite cars atm.

Forza Test Two: Rallye Peugeot (206 RC and 206 Rally Corse)

I have decided to tune up another Rally car favorite, this one missing from Horizon (and what for, when they brought back a car that I could have lived without, the Ford Focus SVT), the Peugeot 206 RC and 206 Rally Corse. Peugeot did something right with the 206, with the year the car comes in the game selling a worldwide amount of nearly 800,000 (2004). In stock form, the 206 RC comes with 174 hp and 149 ft-lbs of torque guiding the front wheels. Weighing in at 2,425 lbs, it's at the lower end of the C class as a stock car, rated at a C353. I took it for a test run on The Nuovo Rally di Positano circuit. As I take her for a spin, I instantly recognize the flaws of having an FF car. One is the understeer, which on the Rally di Positano track can become quite a nuisance. It also seemed to be a little bit sluggish and that I hope we can remedy with a proper Rally tune
Lap Time- 1:22.709
Overall-
Performance- 4.5/10- I'm not a big fan of this car in the stock setup. It seems like it wants to just steer into walls, and it did twice. Otherwise, it's just a normal car trying to be something that it's not, sporty.
Style- 7/10- The style of the Peugeot 206 has always drawn me in. It's a nice little thing, the hot hatch look works well for it.
Total- 11.5/20 (E)- The thing is, it would have been higher had it not been for the performance of the car with everything stock. Maybe tuning it will make it seem a little less... eugh..... shit.

I went to the tuning board and built the Peugeot 206 Rally Corse, an AWD A-600 version of the Peugeot 206 RC in the game. It weighs in a 2,670 lbs (an increase of 245 lbs), but also nearly doubles the horsepower to 346, and adds a nice 103 ft-lbs of torque to it. I took it for a run on the nuovo Rally di Positano. I still felt a little bit of the same sluggishness that I felt in the stock car, and noticed that the same fact of the walls being hit occured.
Lap Time- 1:14.466
Overall-
Performance- 5.5/10- The same problems that plagued the stock car seemed to show up in the AWD version. I'm not sure if there is not enough grip of just an abnormality within the car's feeling, but it seems to me that the car just doesn't feel right.
Style- 8/10- The car's ibherdesign kit really makes it stand out further. That is all.
Total- 13.5/20 (D)- Shame, I was hoping for a better performance of this hot hatch. I'm not sure if I'll be keeping her in my collection or not.

Forza Test one: Trio of Escorts (Stock, Forza C-Class tune, and NV A-Class Tune)

The first official NV Test is with the 1993 Tour de Corse winning Ford Escort RS Cosworth (not really the actual rally car). In Forza Motorsport 4, as stock it is rated as an C371, with 224 hp and 224 ft-lbs of torque, reaching all four wheels. Weighing in at 2,811 lbs, the 1992 Escort can hold its own against similarly classed cars from that time, like the GMC Typhoon and the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II. Taking it out for a spin on the Top Gear track, I noted a few things. One is that it does not like turning into a corner, and that is something that needs to be remedied with better tires and suspension bits. Another is that it runs a bit less smoothly than I had expected it to. That's something surprising for this car. I'm honestly a small bit disappointed.
Overall-
Performance- 5.5/10. It ran a little less smoothly and I did crash it into a barrier during the trip. I hope these problems can be remedied.
Style- 7/10. The style is classic, whether the biplane wing was needed, is another question altogether.
Total- 12.5/20 (D)- It needs a bit of work to be perfect, and hopefully the tuning setup is what it needs.

The Forza C-Class 425 Tune.
I picked up this gem from the auction house (or maybe it was my original choice, I don't actually remember.) But that is not the point, is it. The point is to see if a small PI increase (371 to 425), as well as a small hp and torque increase (each 13 to the plus),  and a small weight decrease (to 2,728 lbs) will bring a slightly better feel to the car. After a lap on the Top Gear track, there's one thing for sure. That wing hurts the car.
Overall-
Performance- 7/10. With the wing being removed, I felt that the car ran a lot smoother and even with the shaky blips and somewhat wiggly back end, it did nicely.
Style- 8/10. The wing is removed on the car, and I think for the car itself, it looks a little bit nicer... a little neater, you could say.
Total- 15/20 (C)- It's not perfect, but it's on its way.

NV Tuning Rally Escort RS Cosworth 600
The NV Tuning Rally Escort RS Cosworth 600 comes standard as A600 (hence the addition to the name), with 376 hp, and 313 ft-lbs of torque, delivered through all 4 wheels. It weighs 2,608 lbs and gets that power through a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine. The details of the tune are not to be revealed. I took it to the Top Gear test track, and let it loose. After one lap on it, I felt confident that the tune can do more on other tracks if need be.
Overall-
Performance- 8/10- It's still in the process of being perfect, and even with the wing in place, there is a bit of a shake in the rear. Otherwise, all in all a good handling car.
Style- 8.5/10- I know I'm going to have to explain myself as to why it gets a 7 as a C, and an 8.5 as an A, but the reason is the fact that the style fits more with the faster speed and the rally idea in mind.
Total- 16.5/20 (B)- As a Ford Escort RS Cosworth, the NV Tuning Rally Escort does pretty well. It has a few glitches and gaffes that need worked out, but all in all, it isn't too bad of a car. I still wish that wing didn't look like you could put a buffet on it though.
